Speaker 1: Welcome to Episode One of The Proper Marketing Show. So The Proper Marketing Show, as the name
suggests, is all about proper marketing. So what do we mean by proper marketing? So, strategic marketing. So it’s not all of these fandangled tactics, it’s not the latest block chain stuff or AR, VR, whatever. This is marketing strategies so this is the stuff that’s seem to be missing from marketing today.

Speaker 1: A lot of tacticians out there doing bits of Facebook stuff and bits of [Insta 00:00:36] or whatever. But whenever I speak to businesses and ask them what is your strategy, 9 times out of 10 they go, “Well, we’re doing some Facebook.” Oh my god, it’s not a strategy.

Speaker 1: So this is the introductory episode. It’ll help you decide if this is the type of podcast that you’d like to be listening to and you think you can get something from. So it’s all about strategic marketing. What is a marketing strategy? What’s a marketing plan? What does it look like? How do you go about developing one? If you’re a business owner, how do you deal with agencies? How do you brief an agency? How do you know if your agencies actually clear on your strategy? And to that point, they can’t be clear on your strategy if you don’t have one.

Speaker 1: So, if you want to learn how to develop a marketing strategy, if you want to learn how to develop a marketing plan, what the difference is between strategy and tactics, how to brief an agency or how to develop a marketing plan for yourself, this is definitely the podcast for you.

Speaker 1: We won’t completely avoid tactics. Tactics are obviously a critical part of the marketing strategy. It’s how we execute the strategy. But they’re secondary to the strategies. If you chime in on a later episode and you’re listening to maybe some Facebook tactics or some search advertising tactics or some website conversion tactics or something like that they will generally point back to an earlier episode where we talked about the strategy that underpins everything that’s going on.

Speaker 1: So that sounds like you, that sounds like it’s going to be helpful, stay tuned because we’ll go through the eight stages of developing a marketing strategy and executing on strategy. We’ll talk about brand, we’ll go into tactics. And then after that, probably week by week, we’ll look at the different elements that make up the tactical component marketing which is what most people focus on anyway.

Speaker 1: But hopefully, what this podcast will do is clarify in your mind why strategy is so important. Tactics are great but until you have a strategy in place the tactics are largely doomed to fail. And we’ll talk about why.
